About Propane
Propane, also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is commonly used for space and water heating, for cooking, and as fuel for engines. Normally compressed and stored as a liquid, propane is nontoxic, colorless, and virtually odorless – with an identifying odor added so it can be detected.
You may see propane used in home heating and for cooking, but it is also used in commercial applications like forklifts, farm irrigation and fleet vehicles. When used as vehicle fuel, propane is known as propane autogas.
Propane is primarily a byproduct of natural gas processing, though some propane is produced from crude oil refinement. Thanks to increased supplies of natural gas, U.S. propane supplies have become much more abundant.
As a natural resource, propane is reliable, abundant and affordable. It operates independent of the electric grid, is constantly being produced to meet and exceed demand, and offers an affordable means of power relative to oil prices.
